Frequently asked question

You might have lots of questions about your chosen RYA course. Opposite are the most frequently asked questions. If you can't find the answer to your question then please drop us an email by clicking on the link below. 

  • WRSC supply all life jackets for RYA training so there is not need to bring one on your training days.

  • Preparing for you RYA Course involves ensuring you have the right clothing to stay comfortable and safe on the water. 

    Here's a guide to on what to wear and bring: 

    1. Wetsuit: Wearing a wetsuit is highly recommended to keep you warm and protected from the elements. 

     

    2. Footwear: Non-slip, footwear such as neoprene sailing boots.  

    3. Clothing layers: If the weather is very warm you can wear a t-shirt and shorts with you sailing boots.

     

    4. Change of Clothing & Towel: It's important to bring a change of clothes and towel. If you do go in the water then the club has warm showering facilities at the club.   

     

    5. Sunblock: If the weather is warm, please make sure you bring sun block.

     

    6. Hat: Bring along a hat that suits the weather forecast. 

  • Yes, you will receive a certificate after every RYA course you attend. Certificates will be handed out at the end of the course once you have completed it. 

    For RYA Powerboat courses you will need to bring a current passport photograph with you.   

  • Yes, both your logbook at handbook are included in you £65 RYA course fees.

     

    Logbooks and handbooks are included in all RYA courses at WRSC, including Powerboat and First-aid courses.

RYA Level 1 - Start Sailing

This two-day RYA course involves detailed instruction on and off the water to get you sailing straight away. RYA Level 1 gives you an introduction to sailing dinghies for complete beginners, covering everything you need to know to get afloat under supervision.

RYA Level 2 - Basic Skills

RYA level 2 follows on from Level 1 and is a two-day course aimed at developing your into a more competent sailor. This course teaches you rigging, launching and building confidence sailing in all directions. It also covers capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge.

RYA Level 3 - Better Sailing

RYA Dinghy Level 3 improves your sailing consolidating skills. This course takes place over two days enabling you to perfect the skills developed at RYA Level 2 and introduces elements of each of the RYA intermediate/advanced modules.

RYA sailing courses designed for you

Whether you're new to the sailing world or a seasoned racer, there's always something new to learn. West Riding Sailing Club is an affilated RYA training centre, offering certifications for sailors and powerboaters - All WRSC RYA Courses are £60* and are available to WRSC members only.

At West Riding Sailing Club we are dedicated to developing Junior and Youth Members. The club runs regular Youth Coaching sessions managed by our Youth Development Officer and wider team. These sessions provide young sailors with the skills, confidence and knowledge to excel while promoting love for the water, building lasting friendships at the club.
