The club’s purpose
and objectives
West Riding Sailing Club encourages and promotes the sport of sailing and embraces a culture of support and unity. We value every member as an integral part of our sailing family. By fostering a strong sense of community spirit, we actively engage in mutual encouragement, celebrate each other’s successes, and extend a helping hand during challenges. We create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued, ensuring that the bond among our members becomes the heartbeat of our sailing community.
Our history
What sets our club apart
Formed in 1937, West Riding Sailing Club is one of the largest and oldest sailing clubs in West Yorkshire with around 150 members (plus children) and 120 boats. We are situated five miles South-East of Wakefield on Wintersett Reservoir with a sailing area covering approximately 100 acres. We are easy to find, being located next to the Anglers Country Park.

The club grounds
Surround by nature
The club has a large lawn that runs down to the water's edge, serving as an area for rigging boats, camping, picnicking and barbecuing, plus a marquee. Two wide concrete slipways allow easy access to the water. The jetty is used for mooring the club's two rescue and one committee boat. The area contains copious wild life, and is designated an area of Special Scientific Interest. There is lots to do at the club, from sailing to taking part in socials, walking the dog around The Wild Wood or just kicking back on the terrace enjoying a drink and soaking up the stunning views.
