About the event

This four-hour coaching session, led by WRSC members of the Tideway Owners Association, delves deeper into the basics of dinghy sailing to enable members to build the confidence needed to travel further afield.

The coaching session covers on-land handling of dinghies, such as: towing, mast set up, rigging and reefing and sailing activities that are essential like launching, getting away from shore cleanly, returning safely, anchoring and tying up to a jetty.

The session looks at the knowledge you will need to sail further afield, such as: on-water sailing rules and sailing etiquette, understanding the basics of weather conditions and wind direction, where to sail, tides when not sailing in-land, what knots to use, how to use an anchor, why you should have oars, when to sail with others and why, hat overboard, using fenders, Hove to, Huntingford tiller impeder, and general sailing safety when adventuring further afield.

The coaching session will also look at what essential on-board kit you will need and what additional RYA courses, like off-shore First Aid, you should consider taking at WRSC as a member, and the importance of these additional skills when sailing for your own safety, the safety of your crew and the safety of other sailors on the water and even on-shore.

This is a coaching session not to be missed for anyone with aspirations to take their sailing skills further.
