There was an improved turnout for the second week of the Early Spring Series on Sunday 9th March, but still with room for improvement. The benign spring sunshine lulled 13 boats out onto the water - and then punished them with unannounced squalls at frequent intervals throughout the day.
Members turning up last Sunday for the start of the Early Spring Series rubbed their eyes and tried to recall what they had been doing on Saturday night. Gone were the tatty old 7 racing cans, replaced by no less than 9 sparkling new buoys, colour coded in day-glow yellow or red depending upon whether they were an odd or even number.
It was a case of deja-vu on the final day of West Riding SC's Northern Brass Monkey Series. For the second week running the Race Officer had no option but to abandon racing for the day with a total flat calm holding sway on proceedings. As a novelty, there was solid ice round the edge of the lake, despite the dazzling sunshine, to enhance the Race Officer's decision.
