The 2008 Spring Series kicked off on Sunday 21st April in the same inclement weather that sailors have enjoyed all through the winter series! Only the wind had relented, sticking to the medium ranges, but the sun was as distant as Cape Horn to an RYA Level 1 candidate.

Mark was the first of a quartet of Solos to head a total entry of 32 boats that competed in the Early Spring Series, with Jonathan Gledhill, John Gledhill and Howard Frear taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th places overall.

Despite the weather forecast for 7-10 mph winds with a few sunny intervals, competitors arrived to find a white horse filled lake and scudding squalls out of a brilliant sunny sky. As a bonus, after weeks of bitter temperatures someone had turned the global warming on, if only to the first notch.
