Dave Baxter takes 1st place at the first Laser Vago Open of 2008 at Carsington in the Derbyshire Dales.

It proved to be a close affair with both single and double handed options competing together in shifting F2 to F4 conditions over the weekend.

Saturday saw a double hander take and hold an early lead to keep the single handers in 2nd and 3rd. The top positions then reversed in race 2 with Dave just getting it on the line and in race 3, single handers took the top two slots despite some downwind position swopping.

Sunday brought slightly stronger winds and catching the right windshifts and curls proved to be the priority. Dave got a win in the first race to secure an overall win with a 2, 1, 1, 1, 3.

With many position changes in all 5 races and a few capsizes from the single handers, the weekend prepared the fleet for their forthcoming Inland Nationals in 2 weeks at Grafham.

Overall Results:

1st Dave Baxter, 358 (West Riding Sailing Club) 5pts
2nd Paul and Julia Kettle, 98 (Littleton SC) 8pts
3rd Ed Deacon, 164 (SESCA) 11pts
4th Paul Welsh, 92 (Weirwood SC) 12pts
