After last weekend's disappointing turnout, there were nineteen boats out on the water for the 3rd weekend of the 2008 Spring Series on Sunday 4th May. This included five Lasers, five Solos, and a couple of Swordfish enjoying their first class start of the year. It was good to see Mark Weston and Guy Cokill out in their RS00's with their respective lady crews, plus a Streaker, a Solution and Mike Woodhead having fun in his Finn.
OOD's Mike and Sue Fogg kept ahead of the game all day with the club flags flying before anyone else arrived and race starts running like clockwork, and on time. Other OOD's please note! There was an inauspicious start to the day with rain showers falling from a grey sky, but by the time boats were rigged, the weather had dried up and a useful southeasterly had set in with some upwind hiking needed in the stronger moments. This encouraged the OOD's to set a longer course for the afternoon, but as soon as the fleets were on the water the wind dropped and the rain set in. This resulted in a marathon drift round the pond for one long lap before the course was shortened. With no improvement there were no takers for the third race and everyone drifted home. As regards results, Tim Keighley went home with two Laser wins in his belt, while in the Solos John Gledhill and Roger "Drifter" Perry took a race each. Ted Farrance and Judy Tree triumphed in the one Swordfish race. At the time of writing, there were no Handicap Fleet results as a search was on to find the PY for a Solution. Has anybody got a solution for the Solution? Hamish Gledhill Second at PennineContinuing his good form in the Northern Laser Grand Prix circuit, Hamish Gledhill finished second at Pennine SC to reigning champion Ian Jones, to add to his third at WRSC and 1st at Delph. He must be getting hooked as he has been spied hosing down his Laser between events. Wednesday Evenings UnderwayWednesday Evening racing enters its third week this week. So far James Porter has been revelling in the lighter evening winds with two wins in his Solo. |
