How does he do it? Saturday 26th September and Gang master Guy once again delivered a perfect day with clear blue skies, a nice southerly breeze and warm temperatures, perfect for sailing.

However once again over thirty volunteers, thought different and turned up armed with drills, saws, snips pliers and climbing gear ready to attack the jobs that Guy had lined up for them. Some had already put in appearance the previous week; others had heard what fun it had been (or was it the rumour of a free bar?)

Thank you to you all.

All manner of jobs were completed on what began to feel like a social rather than a workday.

Two seasoned bimblers were seen repairing the main mast and sawing down doors. Two hardened laser sailors were heard grumbling in the laser compound as they spent all morning digging two holes wondering why they had been allowed a machine like last week.

In a scene reminiscent of the Last of the Summer Wine, one man dug out the main gate post to replace it while a crowd of onlookers offered tactical advice (have you finished yet?).

Members armed in strange yellow rubber gear and thigh length boots, were seen floating by the jetty as the new timbers were installed.

A gaggle of people blitzed the galley before moving on to clean the bar windows. Leeds University gave up one of their precious days of practice before their annual team-racing event to help clear out the compounds. The Scouts were press ganged into the Gang master’s chain gang along with anyone else loitering about.

Then unbelievably the day was over. The work days were deemed a success. The jetty was completed and the fence well on it’s way to being secure.

Finally those that made it to the end of the day retired to the terrace for a well earned drink, sniggering about steel erections. Once again thank you to you all. Without such support the club, which relies on volunteers, becomes difficult to maintain.

Bring on the next work party…
