As Summer arrives, West Riding Sailing Club is looking forward to the end of the month when the club will be holding its 2008 Spring Bank Open Regatta over the three days of the holiday weekend 24th – 26th May.
This year the event includes the Streaker Northern Area Championship to be held over the Saturday and Sunday, in addition to the regular Laser (Standard, Radial and 4.7), Solo and Swordfish fleets who will be racing over the whole three days. With five races to count out of seven, it is possible for competitors to qualify, and win, in just two days. There will also be a handicap fleet for monohulls with a PY 900-1386. Entry fees are £15 for single-handed and £25 for double-handed boats. The most successful regatta in recent years attracted over 90 entries and included a firework display. There will be no firework display this year, but there will be free entertainment on both the Saturday and Sunday evenings, and the bar will be open from Friday evening. Camping is free from Friday night onwards, and there will be food available throughout the event from Saturday onwards. The weekend is traditionally a great family weekend with some competitive, but friendly action on the water and lots of fun ashore.
