After last weekend's disappointing turnout, there were nineteen boats out on the water for the 3rd weekend of the 2008 Spring Series on Sunday 4th May. This included five Lasers, five Solos, and a couple of Swordfish enjoying their first class start of the year. It was good to see Mark Weston and Guy Cokill out in their RS00's with their respective lady crews, plus a Streaker, a Solution and Mike Woodhead having fun in his Finn.

This gave Mark an unprecedented “Grand Slam” of 3 wins in the 3 series held this winter. Mark was the first of a quartet of Solos to head a total entry of 32 boats that competed in the Early Spring Series, with Jonathan Gledhill, John Gledhill and Howard Frear taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th places overall.

The weather forecast for the Day 5 of the Early Spring Handicap Series was for strong winds and snow, but on arrival clear blue skies and moderate winds greeted competitors. The wind however was from the north and icy, and probably explained the competitors reluctance to come to the start line, leaving OOD Hamish sitting for 20 minutes studying how the shifting wind was potentially wrecking his superb course. He was kept company by Tim Keighley, who made it to the starting area on time but was happy playing around with his new Rooster 8.1 rig.
