£10,000 Sport England Award for WRSC WRSC has been awarded a £10,000 grant by Sport England under the Awards for All scheme. The main theme in the application for the award was the purchase of 6 Oppis. The Oppis are the perfect training dinghy for young children and have already had a successful preliminary run out at the first Saturday Club and great use at the Summer Camp.
With the 4 club Toppers for older children, the club now has the craft to allow children to progress on the water from toddler to teens! With the exciting new Summer Series format starting on 29th June, there will be plenty of other opportunities for youngsters to try out the new fleet. Included in the award is money set aside for training instructors, and the club sees this as the first step towards WRSC becoming an RYA Training Centre. The RYA has identified the fact that very few people introduced to sailing outside a club environment continue with the sport after they finish their courses. WRSC intends to provide the means for dealing with that deficiency, to the benefit of the club and the sport of sailing. Meanwhile, let’s encourage as many youngsters as possible to enjoy the new Oppis and become enthused with this fabulous sport of sailing!
